Day 10 - Puma

Today I shot what ever was closest to my camera. In this case it was the shoe sitting under the tripod that was still set up from yesterday's shot. Not overly exciting but I do love my Puma's.

7D and 24-70 2.8L @ ISO 200, f/22, 1/200. Lit by by shooting into an umbrella. Today's was not in the tent like yesterday's shot.

Day 9 - Walther P22

Welcome to Day 9 which would be Day 10 if I wasn't busy celebrating b-day and didn't end up with any time to shoot. I imagine I'll miss a day here and there, such is life. When this happens the plan is to just continue the next day right where I left off.

Today's shot is of one of our handguns. This one is our little plinker the Walther P22. Great little gun that is fun to shoot other than that there is nothing too exciting about this.

I did this like a product shot using a little collapsible light tent I picked up for cheap a while back. I hung it inside the tent using fishing line which is near invisible and easily cloned out in CS4. Shot with the 7D and 24-70 2.8L@ f/5.6, 1/200, ISO 200. I used a single 580ex flash bounced into an umbrella for this first attempt and I'm happy with my first shot at this. My next attempts at this I will use 2 strobes to even out the light a little more.

Day 8 - It's Just An Apple

Ummmm it's an apple. So today's shot isn't overly interesting, it was tasty however. This shot was part of practice for shots I plan on taking at some later time. I'm currently working on a water drop set up so i can take photos of water splashing off of objects and even just splashing in water. Not too exciting now I know, but just you wait.

Day 7 - Xavier's Eye

Here's another macro shot that is a sample of things to come in this project. I'm currently planning on devoting at least a week solid to nothing, but shooting macro photos. Fortunately I have some pretty kick butt kids that are more than willing to help me in my craziness. Xavier was extremely patient while I maneuvered him forward and back and angled his faced every which way until I was happy.

Some shot details: 7D and 100mm 2.8 macro @ 1/200, f/22. The flash you see in the eye is a bare 580ex and I think I actually like the flare shape caused by the lens. A little of my standard post processing in CS4 and there you are.

Day 6 - Jake

Meet Jake who was nothing but a ball of energy this evening. I had to catch him in a moment of puppy heaven to get a decent capture of our little Aussie tonight. He's always energetic and was the source of my laser pointer inspiration. He loves nothing more than chasing the laser pointer or a flash light.

Shot pretty much like yesterday's shot minus the bounce off the ceiling with the flash, I used the Demb bounce with the diffuser this time. This shot also had a little post processing done to give it the look it has.

Day 5 - Ciara

Meet Ciara our big, lazy baby. Ciara we rescued from a home where she wasn't well cared for. Her first few weeks in our home my Dad and I had to tread carefully around her hoping she wouldn't try to eat us. Our best guess is whatever male she had been around probably abused her and/or the other people in the house. These days she's just a big ol' baby and we love her to death. I'm sure we'll being seeing plenty of her and her little pal Jake, who we'll meet tomorrow, plenty during this project.

There's nothing too special about this shot from a photography prospective. I used the 7D and 24-70 2.8L which is probably my favorite combination for a lot of shots. As you can see she is sitting at the top of the stairs so I bounced the flash off the slanted ceiling of the stairwell and used a Demb flash diffuser with the on camera 580ex. For this shot I did a little bit of post processing (PP) in Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Day 4 - Smiley

Probably didn't see this one coming did you? After letting our Aussie chase the laser pointer for a couple I had an idea. It may not be a Picasso but this was more fun than it should have been. For this shot I used a smaller aperture to get a longer exposure time so I could draw with a laser pointer on the shades in my office at home.
     Shot with the 7D and 24-70 2.8L @ 6 sec, f/22.

Day 3 - A "What is it?"

So this is my first of what I'll call a "What is it?" and these will be shots taken where you can figure what it is or what it's a part of. Of course the more detailed and specific the answer the better. Sometimes I may give hints, but this isn't one of those times. I know plenty of people this will be an easy one for. Stacey doesn't get to play since she saw me shoot it.

Shooting details on this one: 7D and 100mm macro again @ 1/250, f/4. Used an always trusty 580ex for flash again and also used an umbrella again. This time I bounced into the umbrella with a back instead of shooting through like I did with the test monkey.

Day 2 - D'Test Monster

So on to Day 2 and let's meet test monster. Test monster also has no name, sad I know. He is my original test subject chosen mostly because of his bright colors. You can see he has had a battle or two with the dogs, but he is no worse for wear. So on to the shooting stuffs, this was shot with the 7D and 100 mm 2.8 macro @ 1/250, f/5.6. Since he's a monster, and he thinks he's quite scary at that, I decided to make the lighting a tad bit more dramatic than what we did with the test monkey. Again I went simple and used a single 580ex with no light modifiers. On test monkey I used a large umbrella with the flash and the difference in the light is pretty significant.

Who knows what Day 3 with hold in store and don't worry not every shot is going to be of old stuffed animals. Weekdays will probably provide for only pretty simple shots with little time to do much more and hopefully weekends will provide for subjects a little more exciting, but I make no promises. If you have any ideas feel free to throw them at me.

Day 1 - The Test Monkey

Well I've finally done it and started my 365 Project. For Day 1 we have my test monkey who unfortunately does not have a name yet. Feel free to comment or send me suggestions and maybe I can stop calling him Hey You. This was shot with my Canon 7D and 24-70 2.8L @ 24 mm, f/8. For lighting I used a 580ex flash off camera.

So maybe not the most exciting subject, but it at least has me off to a start. Who knows what the days ahead hold for this project. Some photos will be dull, some will be exciting, some will be great and a whole lot of them will suck I'm sure. No matter how or what I choose for each day I plan on at least having fun doing it.
